The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Tribal Police Department received a $894,468 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The grant was awarded for coordinated tribal assistance solicitation public safety and community policing.
creek logoFunds will be used for upgrades to the communication system and equipment for LTPD officers.
“We’re very excited because it’s going to help our agency be able to move forward with some of the equipment and items that we wanted to upgrade,” LTPD Chief of Police Richard Fixico said. “We’re definitely looking forward to it and excited to be able to obtained the well-needed equipment.”
This is the first time in four years LTPD has received this grant.
“This grant will allow for our Lighthorse Tribal Police Department to purchase much-needed equipment, which will give them the tools they need to continue to do the outstanding job they do,” MCN Principal Chief George Tiger said. “I’m proud of all our officers and Lighthorse staff. They work around the clock to protect our Nation’s most valuable assets – the Mvskoke People.”
The Lighthorse serves as the police branch for MCN, watching over MCN properties and coordinating with local policing agencies.
