Five years ago an idea was started to keep Henryetta residents informed about what is happening in their community.
On December 10, 2010, Thehenryettan.com website was launched setting the stage for the next generation of news presentation.
web pageThe concept was simple. Provide current, interesting news and photographs about the events and people that affect the community.
It was something new and unique and represents the evolution of providing information to everyone. With the advent of moveable type, newspapers became available to everyone. For years people held a printed piece of paper to see what is happening. When radio and later television arrived, the presentation of news changed and people got in the habit of instant news coverage instead of waiting for a newspaper to arrive.
Now people want to see the news presented to them conveniently and Thehenryettan.com makes news available via computer, smartphone, laptops and tablet.
Visitors keep coming to Thehenryettan.com
Starting on an Apple computer in a converted office building, the website has grown to be an integral part of Henryetta and the area.
To date, there have been 1.031 million visitors reading 3.83 million pages on Thehenryettan.com. The stories and photos have been seen in every country around the world. Statistics come from code supplied by Google that tracks the number of visits and even how the website is viewed.
Over 12,000 stories have been written and nearly 30,000 photographs put on Thehenryettan.com pages. Those range from the annual Labor Day parade, sporting events, city government coverage and obituaries.
Unlike many newspapers today, news stories on Thehenryettan.com run without charge. For years newspapers adhered to the long-standing premise that news is news and advertising pays the bills. That has changed with many newspapers today. News stories such as obituaries, wedding, engagement and anniversary articles have a fee tacked onto them to help the newspaper bottom line.
Subscriptions are not accepted at Thehenryettan.com. Readers do not have to be subscribers in order to see all the news. The pages can be seen by everyone.
Innovation continues at Thehenryettan.com.
As technology changes, so does the website.
Two years ago, streaming video was added, giving followers an opportunity to watch news events as they happen from the convenience of their home or office.
Sport activities, graduations and special school performances are shown live. That has enabled family members living several states away an opportunity to see loved ones, something they couldn't do through the pages of print publications.
At the same time, city council and school board meetings keep local residents current on what their elected officials are doing.
Those televised events are not lost. Everything is recorded and can be played over and over again.
Most recently, Thehenryettan.com website went another step with a design geared toward mobile users. Features include a responsive design that adapts automatically to any size screen.
In addition to the news side of the website, Thehenryettan.com also offers FREE CLASSIFIED advertising.
Everything from yard sales to automotive, help wanted to homes for sale can be part of Thehenryettan.com at NO CHARGE.
