There are a couple of deadlines approaching before the Feb. 9 annual school election says Ashley Carnes, county election board secretary.
Feb. 3 is the deadline for Okmulgee County registered voters to apply for an absentee ballot. Those applications can be picked up at the election board office in the Okmulgee court house or downloaded from the state election board website www.ok.gov/elections.
She said early, in-person voting will start Feb. 4 and wrap up Friday, Feb. 5. Voters can come by the court house from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are four school board seats, a city council position and several bond issues that will be facing area voters.
Okmulgee voters will be choosing between Steven Baldridge, Terry Watkins and Eric Chapman. They are seeking the city council member at large position.
In Morris, James Allred, Bobby Howell, Donna Payne and Kyle Brroks are running for the school board office 1 position.
Candidates for Beggs school board post office 1 are O.G. Corky Thompson and Leonard Moore, jr.
Some of the residents in the east part of the county will be voting for Chris Brown and Bo Chandler for the Checotah school board office 1 job.
Darrell Russell and Edwyna Warrior Walker are the candidates for the Indian Capital Tech Center school board office 1.
Wilson school district voters will be deciding the fate of a $290,000 bond issue. Those bonds are destined to be used for building repairs, buying furniture, fixtures and equipment as well as purchasing some land for the school.
Two bond issues coming to the voters in Dewar include a $140,000 question for funds to take care of school buildings, buying furniture, fixtures and equipment. The second bond issue amounts to $170,000 to buy new busses.
Okmulgee County residents living in the Weleetka school district are being asked to approve a $200,000 body issue. It will be used to buy some new school busses.
