railroad crossing
The steep eastern side of the railroad crossing on Trudgeon was soaked in diesel Thursday afternoon.
A tractor-trailer was trying to cross the tracks from the east when it snagged the front landing gear on the tracks. The force of the impact twisted the metal into a diesel tank used to fuel a refrigeration unit. That ruptured tank was said to have spilled several gallons of fuel onto the track and roadway.
The street had to be closed down for about an hour as city crews cleaned up the spill.
This is the first snag this year but over a half-dozen similar incidents have occurred in recent months.
According to city manager Ted Graham, one remedy would be to have trucks rerouted away from Trudgeon and, instead use the Main Street crossing or Frisco highway.
