The Christmas shopping season was apparently a good one for Henryetta businesses.
January's sales tax return of $234,473.42 nearly set a new record for the town. It was $18,016 above the 2015 return but $4,949.18 lower than the all-time high of $239,422.60 set back in August, 2008.
Henryetta's receipts were based on sales reported to the state from Nov. 16 to Nov. 30 and estimated sales from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15.
Statewide, $140,449,567 in sales tax collections was returned to 514 cities and towns reflecting a decrease of $1,042,534 from the $141,492,101 distributed to 512 cities and towns in January last year.
The same report showed sales tax receipts in Okmulgee were down. This year the town received $507,508 compared to $510,876 a year ago.
