Funeral services for Roscoe Lee Neal will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Skyview Baptist Church in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah.
Roscoe Lee Neal was born Dec. 8, 1927 in Okemah to Robert Lewis Neal and Mary Elizabeth (Scott) Neal. He died April 18, 2016 near Henryetta at the age of 88.
Roscoe had been a longtime resident of the Okemah area and was a graduate of Bearden High School. He had been a resident of Henryetta for the past 25 years. Roscoe married Billie Mae Earnest; she later preceded him in death in September of 1981. In 1989 he married Dorothy Edwards. Roscoe served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Neal’s Radio and TV for nearly 50 years. Roscoe was a very talented musician; having played with Porter Wagoner and on the Grand Ole Opry. He also, at the age of 70, qualified for the show “You Can be a Star”. Roscoe enjoyed playing golf and was named “Citizen of the Year” for the state of Oklahoma in the early 1980s. He was also on the 1966 Okemah Braves sandlot baseball team that won the State Championship. Roscoe was enjoyed playing music for residents on the Okemah Care Center for many years and was a member of the Skyview Baptist Church of Okemah.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Billie Mae Neal; one son, Jerry Dale Neal; one daughter, Lucretia Mae Lay and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Edwards of Henryetta; two sons: Roscoe Neal, Jr. and wife Twyla of Cushing and Robert Neal and wife Kellie of Keller, Tex.; one brother, Robert Ray Neal of Oklahoma City; two sisters: Corena of California and Gay of Cushing; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Stephen Lay, Robert Paul Lay, Riley Lay, Bobby Neal, Nick Neal, Brian Lay and Hunter Lay.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Robert Lee Lay, Jr. and assisted by Rev. David Hamilton.
Visitation and viewing will be Wednesday, April 20 from noon to 5 p.m. and Thursday, April 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
