The baseball and softball fields at Nichols Park will get some renovations following the Tuesday night city council meeting.
Council members approved a $7,350 request by the Henryetta little league to get concrete pads under the bleachers and expansion of the dugout facilities.
Casey Jones said the concrete pads were needed to update the facilities and help bring in more usage of he fields.
He explained the bleachers currently sit on a gravel base that has become a catchall for trash and weeds. "It looks terrible and is hard to get a weed eater under it," he said.
The dugout expansion is needed because players have no room to move around.
He said the first expansion would be for field two and expand the other field bleachers next year.
Funding for the project would come from the money set aside by the hotel/motel tax receipts.
That work is expected to start before the little league season begins this summer.
A proposal to convert the caboose at the skate park into a snack bar was tabled so a legal opinion could be obtained.
Eddy Thomas asked the council to allow her and a group of volunteers to paint the railroad car and set up an area for soft drink and candy sales.
Thomas said initially donations would be used to pay for the supplies.
She asked the city to donate paint for the structure as well as portable toilet rentals and electricity.
She said children currently use the toilets at a nearby convenience store and this would eliminate a problem with children crossing in front of Lake Road traffic.
"The city can't have anything that makes an income in recreation areas," Jennifer Clason said.
Thomas said there would be no prepared foods sold that would eliminate health department concerns.
Councilman Ronnie Duke said he was in favor of the proposal because it would provide some adult supervision during the days children are at the skate park.
At the Tuesday night meeting, the council granted a bid to Gray Boys Lawn Care to mow city properties. That bid of $900 was the lowest of two submitted.
The council also signed letters of agreement with Aledge and Associates for auditing Henryetta financial statements and Crowdford and Associates for consulting services.
