Betty A. Hemphill Rollins-Johnson, a former Henryetta resident, died May 1 in Tahlequah at the age of 88.
She was born May 6, 1927 in Hominy to Ivan and Christine (Dunlap) Hemphill. She graduated from Hominy High School. She attended college and became a Payroll Specialist. She was working as a telephone operator in Tulsa when she met Charles Rollins, a lineman for SW Bell Telephone Co. They were married March 17, 1947. They moved to the Henryetta area, working there from 1950 until 1969.They would later be transferred to Tahlequah. He died in 1973. She married James D. Johnson in 1978.
Betty is preceded in death by her mother and father, her first husband, Charles Rollins and her second husband, JD Johnson and brothers, sister, and grandson, Lewis Hemphill, Ivan “Sonny” Hemphill, Robert Dean Hemphill, Jackie Hemphill-McWaters, and Jonathan White.
Survivors include her son, Steve Rollins of Oklahoma City, OK, and her daughter, Sandy Gillespie and husband Dennis of Jefferson, TX. She leaves one brother, Eugene Hemphill of Florida, and one sister, Jenny Agent and husband Charles of Enid, OK. Her love of life lives on in her grandchildren, Mendi Branch and husband Chuck of McKinney, TX, Gina Gillespie-Downey and husband Steve of Ford, KS, Chris Gillespie of Montezuma, KS, and Diane Mangels and husband Trevor of Hugoton, KS. There are 15 great grandchildren, Rhianna Webb of Oklahoma City, Justin Dodson and wife Buffy of Albany, GA, Dayne Dodson and wife Michelle of Clovis, NM, Jonathan Dodson and wife Pacha of Tahlequah, Michael White of Clovis, NM, Steven White of Clovis, NM, Kalin Branch  of McKinney, TX , Mia Branch of McKinney, TX, Emma Branch of McKinney, TX, Joshua Branch also of McKinney, TX, Colton Downey  of Ford, KS, Claire Downey of Ford, KS, Marshall Gillespie of Montezuma, KS, Glen Gillespie of Montezuma, KS, Christopher Porter of Hugoton, KS, and Gracie Porter of Hugoton, KS. Her great great grandchildren include Kayle Dodson, Zoe Dodson, Gabriel Luke Dodson, Kaden Dodson, Alexis Dodson, Kai Dodson, Alexis Webb, Connor Webb and Guy Shane Dodson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
