proclamation read School may be out but educators and the Muscogee Creek Nation is embarking on a partnership to keep youngsters reading.
The effort started this past week with a proclamation declaring this summer as, "The Summer of Reading."
Signed by Henryetta mayor Jennifer Clason, the proclamation brought together school officials with the Creek Nation Literacy Program. They will be offering access to myOn, an internet-based organization that will make a variety of books available.
"We want to raise awareness of the importance of literacy, especially during the summer to help prevent summer reading loss," said Henryetta elementary principal Kelly Furer.
That effort is going to be boosted by the annual Henryetta library summer reading program. It is open to youngsters for a six-week program.
