Jerry Allen Shropshire, a resident of Spiro, died June 20, 2016 at his residence at the age of 68. He was born May 6, 1948 in Berkeley, Calif., to Garvin Shropshire and Mildred Goswick Shropshire. Jerry grew up in the Dustin/Weleetka area and graduated from Weleetka High School with the class of 1966. After high school, Jerry joined the U.S. Army where he faithfully served including a tour of duty in Viet Nam. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Jerry enrolled at and attended college at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton where he studied business before earning his Associates Degree there. Following college, Jerry went to work as a truck driver and successfully worked for several trucking companies including LeeWay, Robin Transport, and Northwest Expressway companies. Jerry retired after approximately 20 years of truck driving experience. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Panama and the New Life Family Center in Spiro.
He is preceded in death by both his mother and his father; a daughter, Angela Fruge'; a brother, Clifford Shropshire; and a sister, Gloria Jean Haynes.
Jerry is survived by a daughter, Stacey Glover and husband Dr. B.K. Glover of Checotah; son, Scott Shropshire and wife Marisa of Claremore; two brothers, David Shropshire of Talihina and Ronnie Shropshire; grandchildren, Jeter Glover, Karlee Glover, Ethan Glover, Abigail Shropshire, Jenna Fruge', Alex Fruge', Alyssa Fruge', Logan Fruge', Macey Fruge', Victoria Fruge', and Jeremiah Fruge; by other extended family and many good friends.
Graveside funeral services for Jerry will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery of Weleetka (new addition) with Rev. Ed (Joe) Pierce officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Milan, Bob Eyrich, and B.K. Glover.
