The $234,580.21 sales tax check to Henryetta in July was the largest in the past 11 years and the second highest during the past 12 months.
That was a gain of $20,779.23 from the July 2015 total of $213,800.98. It was only $1,722.54 lower than the highest sales tax return of $236,302 in May of this year.
By posting a gain in sales tax monies, Henryetta went against the state trend. A total of $136,199,541 in sales tax collections was returned to 514 cities and towns reflecting a decrease of $870,089 from the $137,069,630 distributed to 514 cities and towns in July last year.
The Dewar sales tax return was also ahead of a year ago by $1,171 while Okmulgee's city sales tax took a $12,782 drop.
"The Henryetta Chamber of Commerce is excited to see an increase in sales tax revenue. This is a direct reflection of increased sales in our community," said chamber president Jeremy Roberts. "This benefits the city and our residents. We encourage everyone to shop local to support our local businesses and our town."
He reminded residents that the sales tax revenue, coupled with monies from city services are the only sources of revenue for the town. No property taxes go toward municipal operations.
