It's not uncommon to see lawyers, law enforcement officers and other county officials filling up a court room.
Thursday afternoon could have looked like a trial was underway at the Okmulgee County court house but there was a major difference.
District Court room 1 had every seat filled as Judge Mike Claver said his farewells.claver casa
After 21 years on the bench he decided to try out retirement and just about every office at the court house as well as nearly every attorney, elected officials and friends were on hand.
His former boss, Tom Guilloli had to brag about the days when the then-assistant district attorney was still learning the ropes. One of those stories included a trip to Washington D.C., where they two took in all the sights with a two-shot derringer being carried. Another involved a grand jury outcome. Both are recounted fully in the video.
He received a certificate from the Court Appointed Special Advocates organization as well as an assortment of gifts. "We didn't know what to give you for retirement so we put a little of everything in it," said county bar association president Lou Ann Moudy.
Thanking everyone for attending, the retiring judge said he enjoyed his time on the bench and is looking forward to doing something new.
