Robert Edward “Red” Thompson, Jr., age 93, died Aug. 21, 2016.  
He was born June 28, 1923, in Quinton to Robert Edward “Bob” and Gussie Thompson.  The Thompson family moved to Henryetta by horse drawn covered wagon when Red was two years old.  
Red attended Henryetta public schools and graduated from Henryetta High School in 1940. During World War II, he joined the United States Army and later became a pilot in the Army Air Corp.  When the war was over, Red returned to Henryetta and took a job at the Pittsburg Plate Glass plant in the lab.  
On Dec. 26, 1950, Red married Johanna Louise Schott, an RN from Oklahoma City. Together, they had two daughters, Vicki and Pam. The Thompsons’ valued education and Red served for many years as president of the Board of Education for the Henryetta Public Schools.  Vicki and Pam later graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Red worked for the Yeager Wholesale Co. and the Anderson Wholesale Co., as a traveling salesman for 20 years.  In 1964, Red and Jo built what was to become one of Henryetta’s most notable icons, the In and Out Drive In. They owned and operated the In and Out until 1977. Red later became a real estate broker and appraiser.  He subsequently formed Red Thompson Real Estate. He worked until his retirement in 2013, at age 90. 
He is survived by: his beloved wife of 64 years, Jo; daughters: Vicki Taylor and husband Michael, and Pam Sherkat and husband Danny; two granddaughters: Stephanie McKay and husband David, Lauren Perez and Travis Whitlock; two grandsons: Mike Taylor and wife Amanda and Kent Taylor and wife Denise and seven great grand children.  
Viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 23 at the Rogers Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be held at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday August 24 at 2 p.m.  Burial will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or H.A.A.R.T. in Hernryetta.
