Henryettans were reminded about the Interstate 40 work again Wednesday when a double-wide mobile home lumbered down Main Street.
double wideThe structure was too wide to fit through the narrowed interstate roadway and forced traffic to come to a complete stop through the downtown area.
Work on I-40 is expected to be completed this fall. The construction company has placed a new highway surface as well as new decking on the bridges along the three-mile stretch of highway. One bridge that used to span the abandoned Frisco railroad was completely removed.
Motorists traveling on I-40 east of town are also being slowed due to a $13 million, eight-mile pavement project just inside the McIntosh County line. That work is also expected to be completed later this fall.
According to Oklahoma Department of Transportation plans, Henryetta's Main Street is scheduled to get a new surface in 2018. That is also the year that construction is planned on the bridge going over the abandoned KO&G railroad line on US 75. It is expected to cost nearly $5 million.
