The month of August was very good for the city of Henryetta.
A new record sales tax check, $253,692.75, came to the town which was the largest in the past 11 years.
It was $17,390 above the previous record of $236,302 and $nearly $38,000 above the August 2015 total.
"The Chamber of Commerce is very excited to see such an increase in the sales tax," said chamber executive director Roy Madden. "This is an indicator of business prosperity and will help the city fund ongoing improvements."
Henryetta mayor Jennifer Clason greeted that report with pleasure. "Despite the negativity that we have seen lately, our city is seeing the best sales tax in its history so the changes with successful events & those buying local I say thank you! Good things are happening around here & the pride I see is outstanding."
That sales tax check was based on mid-June to mid-July retail business. It was the fifth consecutive month of sales tax increases this calendar year.
The increase was reflected in Okmulgee and Dewar as well.
A check amounting to $522,165 was sent to the Okmulgee city treasury. It was $15,000 above the August 2015 total and the third highest this year.
Okmulgee County received $308,405, about $20,000 ahead of last year.
While the $11,527 August check to the town of Dewar was not a record, it was nearly $400 above the last year amount.
Statewide, $138,657,727 in sales tax collections was returned to 514 cities and towns reflecting a decrease of $3,049,370 from the $141,707,097 distributed to 514 cities and towns in August last year.
