The petition for a second audit of Henryetta failed after organizers failed to get enough valid signatures.
Even though the petition originally had 394 signatures on 52 pages, all but 267 were ruled valid by the Okmulgee County election board.
Petition organizer Howard Sheward needed 283 valid signatures in order to get the state to conduct another audit. Sheward had delivered 98 voter registration forms to the county election board Aug. 16.
Election board secretary Ashley Carnes, said those could not be deemed valid because of the Aug. 30 runoff election. Those could not become qualified voters until Sept. 1.
Another 137 signatures were also rejected by the election board which meant it failed by 26 signatures.
The state was notified of the final count in a letter sent from the election board Aug. 24.
Henryetta mayor Jennifer Clason said she had contacted the State Auditor's office Tuesday and was told another petition from Sheward is being prepared.
Had the petition been approved and the audit held, the city would have been charged between $50,000 and $70,000.
