The Henryettan.com is published by Bruce Jones, a long-time journalist who is originally from Henryetta.
He was born and raised in Henryetta, went to school at Roosevelt then graduated as a member of the HHS class of 1964 (yes, a Fighting Hen).
His newspaper career started in the Henryetta Daily Free-Lance under the guidance of Leland Gourley and Bob Scully. After a three-year hiatus to serve with the U.S. Army that included a tour of duty in Vietnam, Jones returned and worked at the Okemah News-Leader again for Bob Scully where he learned the skills associated with journalism.
Over the years, Jones has worked for daily and weekly newspapers in Oklahoma and California, serving as reporter, editor, ad manager and publisher.
He retired last spring from the Blackwell Journal-Tribune but could not let go of the reporting urge.
in the Fall of 2010, he started the Blackwell Blog, an online effort geared toward reporting the news, activities and events surrounding Blackwell. This has been a success.
Due to family health issues, Jones and his wife, Doris, moved back to Henryetta and now have started The Henryettan.com. It is NOT part of any local newspapers or organizations.
The Henryettan.com is designed for today's readers. As technology changes, so does the reading habits of the general public.
There was a time when a newspaper was the only source for information about the community, the state and the world.
Along came radio and then television. Both started giving alternatives for people wanting information, especially in a timely manner.
Now there is the Internet. This means news, weather, sports and so much more is available almost as quickly as it happens, and can be obtained by anyone with a computer.
It is a natural evolution. Today's newspapers are not produced the same way they were published 50 years ago. Today's television is now digital and available through satellite feeds that have shrunken the world in a manner that could only have been dreamed about in the 1950s.
The Henryettan.com is following that evolutionary change.
Today's readers get most of their news through their computer. They want the news available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Through the Internet, it is possible for an online newspaper to provide stories, photographs and even digital video usually within minutes of when the event happened. No longer do readers have to wait until press day. No longer do viewers have to wait until time for the 6 or 10 p.m. news.
The Henryettan.com will be providing that news, those photographs when YOU want to see them.
