A standoff between a Henryetta man and over a dozen police officers came to a peaceful conclusion after nearly two hours Thursday.
The incident started when a woman reported to police that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. She identified him as Lonnie Davis, 36. She told officers he was at a house at 617 West Trudgeon.
in custodyPolice chief Steve Norman said Davis allegedly tried to escape out the front door past officers. "They deployed their tasers and they had no effect," said Norman. The officers started chasing Davis who was able to get back into the house. When police followed, they reported Davis came out of a room pointing what looked like a rifle at them. The officers retreated away from the house. "At that point, Henryetta Police requested assistance from neighboring departments," Norman said. With lawmen from Henryetta, Okmulgee Sheriff's department, Dewar, District Attorney's office, State Police and Okfuskee County surrounding the house, negotiations started with Davis. It took nearly an hour to convince Davis to surrender.frost phone
A subsequent search of the house revealed an AR-15-style toy gun that is believed to be the weapon pointed at officers.
While he was being placed into custody, the police chief said a pickup drove around the assembled police cars and into the area. He was booked into the Okmulgee County Jail on complaints of domestic violence in the presence of a minor and resisting arrest.
The driver of that vehicle, Donnie Davis, brother of the arrested man, refused to follow orders from the officers. He was arrested on charges of obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest.
"We are glad the situation was resolved the way it did," Norman said. No one was injured and we were able to keep the public safe."
Henryetta school officials were preparing to put the classes on lockdown when they got word the standoff was resolved.
Several times during the situation, officers had to warn bystanders to move back from the scene.
This was the second standoff that ended quietly within a 12 hour period. The first was at Schulter. See that story HERE.
