Roy Lee "Rusty" Johnson, a longtime resident of Dewar, died sept. 28, 2016 in Henryetta at the age of 92. Rusty was born Aug. 5, 1924 in Henryetta to Jack Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Waldrup Johnson. Rusty grew up in the Henryetta area and attended Henryetta High School.
Following high school, Rusty joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for approximately two years before his honorable discharge. Rusty returned home and went to work for PPG Glass plant in Henryetta. He faithfully worked for PPG for approximately 30 years, before retiring in 1975. Rusty married the love of his life, Dorothy Lee Hunter on November 20, 1945 in Okmulgee. They remained happily married for 65 years until Dorothy's death in 2010. Rusty was most well known as an accomplished horse trainer. He owned and operated Johnsons Horse Training in Henryetta for approximately 60 years.
Rusty is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, who passed in 2010; by four brothers, Sam Johnson, Homer Johnson, Clarence Johnson, and Ed Johnson; by three sisters, Pearl Gibbs, Ruth Davidson, and Gladys Nelson.
He is survived by two sons: Gary Johnson and wife Debbie of Henryetta and Mike Johnson and wife Sherrylynn of Henryetta; grandchildren: Jody Johnson of Henryetta and Jamie Frederick and husband Dale of Okmulgee; a great granddaughter, Sophie Lynn Frederick of Okmulgee; by numerous nieces and nephews, a community of cowboy friends, and other extended family as well as many good friends.
Viewing will be held at Integrity Funeral Service Friday from noon until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at The First Church of the Nazerene in Henryetta with Rev. Jack Vance and Rev. Randall Reeder officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Roy Duvall, Bill Duvall, Clenny Pancost, Willard Wade, Dick West, and Ronnie Stapp. Honorary bearers will be Kenny Jones, Larry Jackson, Steve Jackson, Mike Bailey, Bobby Bean and George Kennedy.
