The danger of driving into smoke was illustrated again Thursday afternoon north of Checotah.
A Weleetka woman, Danna Stapp, had to be flown to a Tulsa hospital for treatment of injuries after a four-car accident on US 69.
Stapp was a passenger in a car that had crashed into a vehicle then was struck in the rear.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by a McAlester woman had slowed for an accident caused in the heavy smoke when it was hit in the rear then the other two vehicles crashed in a chain reaction.
A passenger in the second vehicle received minor injuries and the driver of the third vehicle refused treatment at the scene.
No one was injured in the original crash.
