Okmulgee County election board officials say a record number of people cast ballots early for the Nov. 8 election.
A total of 1,483 voters turned out Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Okmulgee County Courthouse. “It was almost nonstop,” said one election board worker.
Election board secretary Ashley Carnes said 1,870 absentee ballots had been returned to her office in the mail as of Saturday. More ballots were expected Monday and Tuesday. The deadline for absentee ballots must be received by the election board before 7 p.m. Tuesday to be counted.
Voters who prefer to go to their precincts will start at 7 a.m. Tuesday and have until 7 Tuesday evening to make their selections.
Carnes is urging everyone to be informed on the seven state questions before they come to vote. “That will shorten the time needed to vote and maybe help eliminate some congestion,” she said.
