Theo Crawley was the hostess for the October meeting of the Okemah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah. After the opening ritual, flag salute, and the National Anthem, Regent Velda Jo Bradley and Chaplain Susan Barnett welcomed Sharon Young as a new member.
Dorothy Burden gave a very interesting presentation about her experience and many lessons she was taught when she was a young girl attending the Eufaula Indian Boarding School.
Theo Crawley presented the program on John Trumbull, portrait artist and patriot of the American Revolution.  Some of his many portraits included George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and even a self-portrait of himself.  Trumbull’s painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is featured on the back of the two dollar bill.  
Virginia and Glenn Sharpe presented to the Okemah Chapter a one hundred year old brass school bell to be used by the Regent to keep order.
On Saturday, November 12, the DAR chapter will be honoring all area veterans at a reception from 2 till 4 p.m. at the American Legion in Okemah.  Refreshments will be served and veterans will be recognized for their valuable service in preserving the freedoms we enjoy today.
The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, November 15, at 11:30 a. m. at Pepino’s Mexican Restaurant in Okemah.  All prospective members are invited to attend.
