State Sen. Roger Thompson will take on a new responsibility for the 2017 and 2018 legislative sessions.
Thompson Roger 1He’s been elected to serve as vice chair of the Senate Republican Caucus. Thompson, R-Okemah, was elected to the District 8 Senate seat in 2014. He’s served as vice chair for the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation for the past two years.
“I’m grateful to my fellow members for choosing me to serve as part of the Senate’s leadership team. As vice chair, I will assist the Republican Caucus chair as we work to keep our members informed about key legislation and issues important to our legislative agenda,” Thompson said. “Oklahoma is still being impacted by the continuing global downturn in oil prices. It means we will continue to have serious challenges as we work to write and pass a balanced budget in the upcoming session. Although the formal session doesn’t begin until February, our caucus will be hard at work before then so that we can meet those challenges.”
During the 2014 and 2015 sessions, Thompson also served on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Business and Commerce, Education and Judiciary. This fall Thompson also became chair of the Legislature’s Diabetes Caucus. He serves on the education committees for both the Southern Legislative Conference and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
