The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) and First Christian Church are hosting a Foster Care and Adoption Information Night Jan. 26, 2017, at 6 p.m.  The event will take place at the First Christian Church located at 412 N. 5th St., Henryetta, OK 74437.
familyThe purpose of the event is to help people to find out more information on how they can become a foster or adoptive parent and other ways they can help a child in need in Okmulgee and Okfuskee counties.
There will be discussion around why children come into state custody, the benefits of being a foster parent, what assistance DHS offers foster parents, and much more.
There are over 9,500 children in state custody. DHS needs the help of local communities to care for these children. They need foster families to love and support them and to help them thrive.
First Christian Church Pastor Jerrod Dumond will host the event and the speakers are Judge David Martin from Okfuskee County and DHS foster care and adoption recruiter Heather Huff.
“Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to learn more about what Foster Care and Adoption is all about, as well as recognize the urgent need that some may not  be aware of,” the pastor said.
