Henryetta and the area received over two inches of welcome rain early this week. That brought up the level of many area ponds and dampened a lot of vegetation.
Because of the rain, Gov. Mary Fallin removed the burn ban for Okmulgee and 52 other counties. She issued the ban Friday due to the extreme dry weather conditions.
That removal has no  effect on county burn bans including Adair, Atoka, Bryan, Canadian, Coal, Haskell, Hughes, Oklahoma and Pittsburg counties.
Even though the ban has been lifted, fire chief David Bullard urged anyone who wants to burn trash or debris to use caution. "They need to make sure the fire will not get out of control and make sure it is completely out when they are finished," he said. "More dry weather is in the forecast for the weekend and, with any wind, the moisture we now have can quickly evaporate."
