ms-tennis The Henryetta Middle School came in third and tied for fourth in their junior high tennis tournament Thursday. The young HMS girls placed third with Byng and Ada capturing the first and second spots. In the boys contest, Byng was first, Ada took second, Bixby third and Henryetta and Seminole tied for the fourth place team title.
At the end of the day, Henryetta had three third place winners. The Henryetta number 1 doubles team of Hage and Williams took third after defeating Bixby's Harper and Murray in an 8-5 match. They won their first match, 8-0 over McAlester but had to go to the third place bracket with an 8-6 loss to Byng.
The number 1 singles third place went to Henryetta's Natalie Smith. She opened with an 8-0 win over Seminole but lost 8-5 to Byng. That put her in position to win 8-4 against Chloe walker of Bixby for third.
Third place also went to the girls number 2 doubles team of Hodges and Purdue. After beating Okmulgee 8-1 in their first math, they lost 8-2 to Ada. The third place win came with an 8-6 victory over Bixby.
The Henryetta number one doubles team of Bailey and Lollis took an 8-1 victory over McAlester but fell 8-5 to Ada. They blanked Bixby 8-0 for their third place win.
Haley Glass also won 8-0 in her number 2 girls singles contest against Seminole. She lost 8-6 to Abby Ervin from McAlester and 8-4 to Mikayla Freeman from Ada.
Two Henryetta number 2 singles players, Eric Dwiggins and Corbin Fry wound up playing each other in the start of the consolation rounds. Dwiggins lost his owning match with McAlester 8-6 while Fry lost to Ada 8-1. When the pair met, Dwiggins won 8-1 but lost the fifth place consolation finals 8-4 to McAlester.
In the boys number 1 singles, Henryetta's David Wilkinson was defeated 8-0 by Ada in his opener and Colton Wion lost 8-4 to Okmulgee. Wilkinson lost 8-1 to Bixby and McAlester 8-5 in a sixth place bid.
Wion won 8-1 against McAlester and 8-1 over Bixby for his consolation win.
