The OSBI has been called in to investigate the cause of an officer-involved shooting in Okmulgee early Wednesday morning.
That shooting happened around 2 a.m. when Okmulgee police were called to a disturbance at the Budget Inn. When they arrived, a man was allegedly threatening suicide and brandishing a knife at his throat.
He was said to have advanced toward the officers and, after refusing multiple commands to drop the knife, officers fired on him.
The individual, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital in Okmulgee where he died.
Police are currently looking for his next of kin for notification before releasing the victim’s name.
The OSBI will present their report to District Attorney Rob Barris who will determine if the shooting was justified. The officers involved have not been named.
