Henryetta has produced a lot of tennis players over the years.milligan
Some have gone on to make the sport an intergal part of their lives through college and coaching careers while others have kept up with the sport just for recreation.
There is an effort underway to find some of those players especially the older ones, to participate in a league of those 55 years old and up in Tulsa.
Three of those participating are Mark Milligan, John Truesdell and Tom Langwell. All three are veterans of the Henryetta high school tennis program.
They play in a US Tennis Association league consisting of six teams. Based out of LaFortune Tennis Park, league members compete with an eye to district contest in Oklahoma City with the winners going to the Missouri Valley tournament.
Winners from there go to a national tournament.
"We want to show everyone that Henryetta has produced some top-notch tennis players," Langwell said. "To do that, we would like to put together an entire team of tennis players with Henryetta roots."
Langwell said anyone who would like to be a part of the team can contact him or Milligan. Competition will be held this fall.
Most of those senior tennis players got their start on the courts on West Main. Those same courts are going to see a complete facelift this year. Langwell said he is hoping to hold a tournament on those new courts once work is finished.
