13th house fireHenryetta fireman say a blaze that destroyed a house early Wednesday morning is "suspicious" in origin.
The fire began as a small blaze outside of the house at 13th and Division around 8 p.m. It quickly spread to the exterior wall then swept up the southwest corner of the home and got into the attic area.
Firemen knocked down the blaze within 30 minutes of their arrival but the decades-old wood in the attic area caused flames to burn throughout the underside of the roof.
No one was living at the house at the time of the fire.
A house just to the west of the destroyed home saw damage to a collapsing carport roof but was not burned. The occupant of that house said he was sleeping at the time the fire started.
Fire chief David Bullard said witnesses at the scene reported the fire appeared to have started in some debris. He said the investigation will look into the possibility of arson.
