It was supposed to be a "soft" opening but the staff at the new Chair Crushers Grill found out people were waiting to taste the food Thursday. The new restaurant at 10029 Dewey Bartlett Road west of Henryetta has been going through a wall to wall, floor to ceiling remodeling effort for the past nine days. Now all traces of the former Pig Out Palace are gone and owners Aaron and Carrie Ruth are ready to serve the public. There is a completely new menu with specialty appetizers as well as soups, salads, grilled food, breakfast items and sandwiches. Gone is the buffet line but it has been replaced by a week of all you can eat daily specials with something new every day.

Ruth said he is emphasizing his barbecue plates with his own signature sauce enhancing the meal. He has replaced Huckleberry the pig with Chubby the Chair Crusher as a mascot. That character figures prominently behind a specially-built chair and table open to anyone who wants to meet his food challenge. The "Chair Crusher" challenge is a two pound, four patty hamburger that has two pieces of bacon and a slice of cheese per patty, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles with a platter of cheese fries. Put that away in 30 minutes or less and the meal is free. That honor will also be commemorated with a photo and the name of the successful diner.

A second challenge, "The Barbquetioner," consists of two racks of ribs, one pound of brisket, one pound of pulled pork, another pound of bologna, baked beans, okra, salad and bread. Anyone who can eat that in an hour or less gets the meal free, their photo taken and name on the wall of honor. Chair Crushers is a family restaurant that includes a special kids menu catering to the children under 12.
