Every Memorial Day Henryetta VFW post 539 recognizes the fallen veterans by marking their graves with American flags.
That work has been going on for several decades and, as time goes by, the need for more flags grows. IMG 1679
Graves at Westlawn Cemtery, Sonora, Weleetka, Wilson and Hoffman cemeteries are included in the effort and now the VFW is adding veterans at Hitchita cemetery to the list bringing the total to over 2,300 flags to be set out.
Those flags are placed on the Friday before Memorial Day and remain throughout the weekend rain and shine. That cmeans over the years, the flags become dirty, torn and some are even taken by families wishing to remember their veterans.
It is a cost to the VFW of about $140 per gross.
Henryetta's VFW post is tring to become re-established after several years of inactivity and members are being recruited,. With more members, more funds will be available to make purchases such as the flags but currently help from the public is needed.
Members of the post are going to be seeking donatons at booths at Walmart and Homeland April 27. Anyone wishing to help is asked to donate at that time or contact a member of the Henreytta post.
