Large trees, broken limbs, power outages and frayed nerves were in abundance Monday morning after a storm ripped through Henryetta and the area.
A lot of the damage was located in the southern part of town with several homes struck by falling trees and limbs. Several outbuildings were flattened and a church steeple at the One Church on New Lake Road was ripped from the roof.
The storm struck around 2:30 with high winds, blinding rain and small hail falling. By 3 p.m. the storm center had moved on east. A number of homes in the southern part of town as well as several in Dewar lost electricity as limbs fell across power lines tripping breakers.
Henryetta fire chief David Bullard said it is believed that the damage was caused by straight line winds but some residents reported seeing some rotation in the clouds illuminated by the frequent lightning.
No onjuries were reported from the storm.
The damage was not restricted to just Henryetta. On Wilson road north of town, several large trees and limbs were blown across the highway forcing motorists to twist and weave throught he debris.
Bus drivers also had to take care pickingup students on their way to school. Several times, drivers had to back up from debris-filled roadways.
