buddy poppy

The proclamation designating May as "Buddy Poppy Month" was signed Thursday by Henryetta mayor Jennifer Munholland. The designation is conducted annually by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539 as a precursor to the sales of the red poppies. VFW commander Bill Goodner said post members will be distributing the cards bearing the poppies made by disabled, needy and aging veterans throughout America. Those sales are used to help veterans and continues a tradition that started in 1923.
