History and fun will be coming together June 13.
The Crazy Snake music festival will be held at Nichols Park with a full day of entertainment in store. Described as a "Red Dirt" music event, the festival headliner will be Charlie Robison. Among his albums are "Hometown," and "Bar Light."
He performs at a number of special events throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
Two other bands will be performing as well but they have not been announced by promoter Levelland Productions.
In addition to the music venue, there will be sand volleyball and disc golf tournaments that Saturday.
City officials said the park will be closed for general admittance. Ticket prices are $20 for those purchased in advance and $25 at the gate. Special VIP tickets are being sold for $50 at the gate or $40 if purchased in advance.

The festival is named for Chitto Harjo, also known as Crazy Snake. Even though his name is most commonly connected with the Crazy Snake uprising in 1909, Harjo was actually a staunch opponent of the government's determination to divide up tribal lands.
 Chitto-harjo

He went so far as to speak to a Senate committee in Tulsa about the issue. In his 3,097 word address to the senate, he told of the loss of the Creek lands in the south and relocation to Oklahoma.
Harjo was wounded in a shootout with law enforcement officers in 1909 and died two years later while hiding in the Kiamichi Mountains.
In 1942, a sandstone monument was placed in Nichols Park commemorating Chitto Harjo and a treaty between the Creeks and the federal government.
The recent decision by the city council to allow beer sales at special events enables Budweiser to be one of the sponsors.
Money raised by ticket sales, once the production company is paid, will be used for more development of Henryetta's parks.
A Facebook page has been set up to keep the public informed about the festival.
