The sewer project west of Henryetta should be completed in the next two or three weeks.
That was the report from city Public Works director Ron Casey Monday morning to the Henryetta Economic Development Authority (HEDA)
When completed the $500,000 project will connect 35 acres of land owned by the city to the sewer system and make it available for retail development.
Already plans are in the works for a new motel with the possibility of a restaurant also locating in the area. Casey said he anticipates businesses in the area connecting to the new sewer line.
The project involved boring under Interstate 40 and installing a lift station at the rear of the 35 acres.
At the HEDA meeting Monday members approved paying the $304,847 for the work as well as the engineering service on the project. Those payments will require HEDA to cash in two certificates of deposit currently held at First Family Federal Credit Union.
Also approved for payment was $4,500 for the bucking chutes installed at the Jim Shoulders Living Legends rodeo arena.
Casey said he had been working with QuikTrip last week on the store to be built on East Main. The company has purchased the second motel that will be removed to make way for the new business. No date has been given for demolition of the two motels. Some test drilling for soils and utility locating has been done this past week.
