drive thruAn electrical problem is said to be the cause of a fire at the American Exchange Bank drive-through early Friday morning.
Fire chief David Bullard said the fire originated in the ceiling sometime during the night. It smoludered for some time then caught the building rafters on fire sending smoke out into the canopy over the pneumatic tubes. A passerby spotted the smoke and called the fire department.
Bank president Terri Thompson said all drive through transactions will now be conducted in the bank lobby. The lobby will maintain the drive-through hours including Saturday until repairs can be made. the ATM machine has been temporarily affected but workers are busy trying to get it in operation again.
She pointed out that no bank records are stored in the building.
