Every year the Henryetta Lions Club provides food baskets and gifts for youngsters that would otherwise not have a Merry Christmas.
The tradition started some 60 years ago and has affected thousands of households since then.
This year Lions members will be taking applications Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 at the Henryetta Civic Center. Anyone intersered in applying may do so between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
Applicants are being asked to provide proof of income, proof of residence and proof of guardianship for children in order to be accepted into the program.
Income proof can be in the form of a current pay stud, bank statement, last year’s tax return, w-2 or 1099 or a copy of their SNAP letter.
The proof of guardianship can be in the form of a birth certificate, previous year’s tax return showing dependents or any legal document showing custody.
Christmas baskets will be distributed at the First United Methodist Church Dec. 21.
Lions club members are looking for donations of canned food to be used for those baskets. Henryetta schools will be collecting them throughout the month.
Starting Nov. 22, Lions club members and volunteers will be at the Henryetta Wal Mart with the donation buckets. Funds from those donations help pay for the annual Christmas program.
