Potential candidates for the four Okmulgee County offices will put their names on the line starting April 8.
The filing period starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 8 and will end at 5 p.m. April 10 according to Ashley Carnes, Secretary of the Okmulgee County Election Board.
Her office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Okmulgee County court house.
The offices up for election this year include: County Clerk, County Court Clerk, County Sheriff and County Commissioner, District 2. Currently those offices are held by: County Clerk, Becky Thomas, County Court Clerk, Charly Frazier-Criner and County Commissioner District 2, Robert Hardridge. “To file as a candidate for any county office, a person must have been a registered voter and have maintained a current principal residence within the county for the six-month period immediately preceding the first day of the filing period,” Carnes said. She pointed out anyone wishing to file for the office of county commissioner, a person must have been a registered voter within the county commissioner district for the six-month period immediately preceding the first day of the filing period.
To file as a candidate for nomination by a political party to any state or county office, a person must have been a registered voter of that party for the six-month period immediately preceding the first day of the filing period prescribed by law. To file as an independent candidate for any state or county office, a person must have been registered to vote as an independent for the six-month period immediately preceding the first day of the filing period prescribed by law.
