Memorial designations honoring two Okmulgee County servicemen moved a step closer to being completed following action by the Oklahoma State Senate late last week.
Edward A DeVore JrThe Oklahoma Senate transportation committee unanimously approved the designations for Edward DeVore, jr., and Russell Keck. DeVore, a Henryettan received the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously following a firefight in ZVietnam in 1968. Keck was awarded the Navy Cross following Marine operations in 1967 in which he was mortally wounded.keck
A third memorial designation was approved recognizing OHP Trooper J.C. Magar who was killed in the line of duty in Hugo in 1975.
DeVore’s memorial plaque will be placed at the Coal Creek Bridge on East Main near the intersection with U.S. 75.
Keck will be recognized along SH 56 just west of North Wood Drive and going through Okmulgee.
Magar’s dedication will be on a section of SH 271 from Hugo to Grant, Okla.
Senate Bill 1145 will now go to the full Senate and, if approved, will be sent to the House of Representatives for approval. Those designations would go into effect Nov. 1, 2020.jc magar
