Demand for the COVID-19 vaccine is causing issues getting people vaccinated.
virusHenryetta Hillcrest administrator Dee Renshaw said the limited supply of vaccine has forced the hospital to close their clinic for the rest of the week.
“We are hoping to have more supplies beginning next week,” he said.
Hospital officials are in the process of contacting everyone who has appointments and getting them rescheduled.
“Individuals who were scheduled for this week will become priority patients once we have the vaccine. We hope to expand our hours and add additional staff to accommodate those who seek a vaccine.”
The state health department also issued a bulletin saying the shortage has their personnel rescheduling appointments also.
Renshaw said the hospital has been using the Moderna vaccine since the Phfizer vaccine requires special handling and storage.
The demand for vaccinations have swamped the state Health Department phone bank.
Several people have reported hours-long wait times before they could schedule an appointment. The state has requested citizens call 2-1-1 and not their county health departments.
