Despite COVID forcing virtual auditions and practice, three Henryetta students sang their way into all-state honors.
The three, Caveryn Foster, Braden Lollis and Anna McConnell were selected for the Oklahoma Choral Director’s Associaiton Junior High All State Honor Choir.
Foster, a freshman, and Lollis, eighth grade, are now members of the mixed chorus. McConnell, the other HHS freshman, earned a place into the table chorus.
“Rehearsals this year were conducted via Zoom meetings on Thursday through Saturday,” said vocal instructor Karen Willis. “The students, selected from across the state, met with a guest clinician, as well as composers, to further understand the music they had learned. They made and submitted individual video recordings that will be combined with the other All State Choir members.”
Those videos will be compiled into a virtual concert for viewing at a watch party at a later date.
“I’m very proud of our students for this achievement. It’s a notable accomplishment in a normal year, but these students had to do things very differently. They rose to the occasion and overcame all the technology challenges to experience something in a new way. They have grown as musicians and as people of character.”
