Okmulgee is going to be one of three smaller Oklahoma communities showing "August: Osage County," Friday, Jan. 17.
Booked at the Orpheum Theatre, the film includes scenes in Osage County, Pawhuska and Barnsdall. It opened to an Oklahoma appearance Jan. 10 at 10 theaters in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The Jan. 17 showing includes Okmulgee, Altus and Chikasha. Ironically, the theater in Batlesville, where the movie production crew was headquartered was not included in either of the opening dates.
According to Orpheum owner John McConnel, the movie will be shown in the upstairs Orpheum then move to the theater downstairs for the Saturday matinee and Tuesday evening showing. It will be shown for two weeks. Movie times downstairs include 1:45 p.m. Saturday and 7:15 Tuesday.
Tulsa native Tracy Letts wrote the story, which deals with serious family issues that provoke the use of strong language but also create comedic moments.  George Clooney was co-producer.  Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts headline the cast and Benedict Cumberbatch has a key role.
