A Henryetta man is facing federal prison time after he was found guilty on two charges this week.
Kendall Len Burgess, 22, was convicted to aggravated sexual abuse and abusive sexual contact following a three-day trial in Muskogee.
He was accused of sexual abuse of a seven-year-old in 2019.
According to US attorney Kevin McCrory, state charges were originally filed against Burgess. Burgess was said to have not appeared in court on those charges and later was arrested following high speed chase through both Okmulgee and Tulsa County.
The case went to the federal court since Burgess is a member of a federally-recognized Indian tribe and the crime occurred in Okmulgee County, within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
He can be facing no less than 30 years to life imprisonment. Following the trial, he was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending the imposition of sentencing.
