Mandy Ruth Harjo died Sept. 9, 2021, in Okmulgee at the age of 66. She was born July 25, 1955, in Wetumka to Benjamin and Christine Harjo. Mandy attended Graham Public School in Weleetka where she graduated in 1973. She played basketball at Graham and later earned her cosmetology license.
During her lifetime, she lived in many places – Oklahoma, Texas, and Pakistan. She traveled to New York, Washington DC, Las Vegas, and Germany. Mandy raised her three daughters in Oklahoma City and later settled in Mounds and worked at Creek Nation Division of Health, where she retired in 2016. She was a member of Hickory Ground #1 Baptist Church.
Mandy is preceded in death by her parents, brother James “Be-be” Harjo, niece Kristina Thomas, and nephew Craig Bucktrot.
She is survived by her daughters: Pam Edgar and husband Bill, Saira Boswell and husband Thomas, Amber Acosta and husband and husband Edgar; grandchildren: Savannah Edgar, Sophie Edgar, Gabriel Boswell, Chloe Boswell, Isabella Zafar, and Noah Jones; and her siblings: Drew Johnson, Mary Wagner, Frank Harjo, Karen Powell, Anna Harjo, William Harjo, Bennie Harjo, and Judy Montiel, plus many nieces and nephews, cousins, and close, loving friends.
Viewing for Mandy will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Integrity Funeral Service.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Hickory Ground #1 Baptist Church south of Salem. Rev. Mitchell Taylor and Rev. Wallace Gambler will be officiating. Interment will follow in Harjo Family Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
