The race for Okmulgeee County Commissioner District 3 got real interesting once all the ballots were counted Tuesday night.
Republican Kathy George Spears was the apparent winner by six votes over Matt Richardson. She picked up 138 votes compared to 132 for Richardson.
Spears received 128 votes Tuesday, two absentee mail and eight in the early voting last week. Richardson had four absentee mail, seven early voting and 121 on election day.
On the Democrat side of the ticket Dan Artussee was the runaway favorite with 322 total votes, ahead of Michael Wallace with 123 and Gerald Bardin with 59.
Even though Republican David Berry had dropped out of the race, his name was still on the ballot and received 41 votes, most of them 39, on election day.
County election board secretary Ashley Carnes said the final totals will be official Friday when all ballots are certified.
