Okemah Chapter of DAR
The Okemah Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution met Feb. 15 at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah. Hosting the meeting were June Yahola and Geneva Bertges
Regent Becky Hold opened the meeting and led the opening ritual, the flag salute, The American’s Creed, the Preamble to the Constitution, and the National Anthem.
Birthdays celebrated this month are on the 7th Judi Drennan, the 12th D’Andra Musick, the 17th Nicole Edge, and on the 25th Velda Bradley. Happy Birthday, dear daughters and many more!
Judith Drennan gave a most interesting program, “Women on the Mayflower.” She told of the many hardships faced by the Mayflower women and how they endured and survived. The 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower was celebrated in 2020.
Sheldon Starr presented the President General’s Message, Judith Drennan the National Defense Report, and June Yahola read both the Constitution Minute and Flag Fact.
Becky Hold presented a historic preservation project for the chapter to consider. She explained the Nichols Park Restoration Committee’s noble endeavor to restore the caretaker’s house at Henryetta’s Nichols Park led by the efforts of Steve Sanford and entirely done with volunteer labor and monetary donations. The chapter voted to support this project with a monetary donation.
The members elected Ann Jackson to represent the chapter on the nominating committee for officers for the next term. The three-member committee, composed of Ann Jackson, June Yahola, and Judith Drennan, will present a slate of officers to be elected at the next meeting March 2.
The door prize, a beautiful flower arrangement donated by the hostesses, was won by Chris Garber who gave it to Lucretia Harkey our dear member residing in the Okemah Rest Home.
It was voted and decided to change our meeting time to the first Wednesday of each month, so the next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 2, at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah. Sheldon Starr will present the program, “Syble Ludington, Paul Revere Didn’t Have Anything on Her.”
