The bats were not working for the Lady Knights Monday at their opening game with Valliant in the state tournament.
Henryetta fell behind 7-0 at the end of the first inning with the Lady Bulldogs getting seven singles driving in runs. They would eventually post 14 hits for the 15-0 win.
“We just couldn’t make the hits,” said coach Ryan Swallow after the game. “It was a disappointing way to end the season but I’m still proud of our girls.”
This was the first time Henryetta gave up double digits in runs and only the fifth loss with 29 wins since March.
Henryetta would get two hits on the day, one from senior McKayla Greenhaw and the other from sophomore Shelby Kilhoffer.
At one point Henryetta had the bases loaded but could not connect with the ball to post any runs.
Valliant would go on to get one run in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth and final inning for the win.
“We had errors that hurt us in crucial times,” Swallow said.
Valliant would go on to lose to Dale, 13-8. Eventually the state tournament wound up with first and second ranked Dale and Washington viewing for the top spot. Washington would take the state title with a 17-7 win.
“We have had an exceptional team and I am proud to have been their coach,” Swallow said. “They represented themselves and our school well both on and off the field.”
