Samuel Dewey Maxwell Sr., a resident of rural Okmulgee, died Aug. 15, 2015 at his home at the age of 53. Samuel was born Oct. 12, 1961 in Oklahoma City to Melvin Maxwell, Sr. and Gloreta Buffington Maxwell.
He grew up in Dustin attending Graham and Dustin Public Schools. At a fairly young age, Samuel attending welding school and learned the craft of welding. Samuel worked for 26 years as a welder in several capacities, including a lengthy employment by Ref/Chem Corporation of Odessa, Texas as a master welder. In recent years, Samuel had been working as a pipeliner. He was a member of the Northside Worship Center.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his son, David Maxwell; two brothers, James Maxwell and Kelly Joe Maxwell; and a nephew, Jeffery Putnam.
Samuel is survived by his son, Samuel Dewey Maxwell, Jr. and wife Melissa of Beggs; a daughter, Sammijo Suleann Maxwell Gryder and husband Brandon of Schulter; by two children he helped raise through a previous marriage, Michael Gail McClain of Schulter and April Stidman Walker and husband Bart of Schulter; two brothers, Melvin Maxwell, Jr. and wife Melanie of Oklahoma City, and Roger Maxwell, Sr. of Atoka; by five sisters, Vilenna Shaddix and Ron Spears of Gore; Paula Smith and husband Donnie of Dewar, Coraine Maxwell and Bobby of Daytona Beach, FL, Billie Carson and husband Jackie of Henryetta, and Janey Bass and Robert Webb of Dewar; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Frantz, Emily Maxwell, David Maxwell Jr., Kye Maxwell, Cody Gryder, Michael Gryder, Markee Gryder, Bailey Weeks, Brooklyn Weeks, Audrey Walker, Andrew Walker, and Colt Walker; by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family; and many good friends.
Viewing will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 18 from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, August 19 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 10 a.m. at New Covenant Tabernacle near Grayson with Rev. Robert Lay and Rev. Robert Gaches officiating. Interment will follow at Dustin Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
