koelzerHenryetta ward 3 city councilman Henry Koelzer is resigning from his position effective Aug. 16.
Koelzer, who was elected two years ago, said the resignation comes, "with sadness," after a change with employers and job requirements.
"The citizens deserve the best we have to offer and I am no longer able to give them what they deserve," he said in his Aug. 14 letter to the city council, city manager and attorney. "The city has made great strides in the last two years and I am sure will continue down a path of goodness."
Koelzer has been instrumental in getting some improvements made to the Nichols Park area and has served on the Henryetta Economic Development Authority. That resignation leaves two positions on the HEDA board open. The first vacancy was created earlier this month with the announcement that Mike Meek would be leaving.
Upon hearing about the resignation, Henryetta mayor Jennifer Clason issued the following statement:
"Henry has been a true asset to the city and our council. He has spent hours upon hours off his own time focusing on action committees to improve the quality of life here. Henry was also a friend to me whom I will miss his serious, comical and business sense he brought to the table.
