A Henryetta 4-H club is off to a start following a sign-up session Thursday night.
Organizer Brooke Matthews Smith said there were four girls who are interested in joining 4-H and she expects more.
4 h logoSmith said she grew up in the Wilson area and was involved in the ag program through that school. Moving to Henryetta, she said she wanted to get more youngsters interested in ag and similar programs so she looked into what it would take to organize 4-H here.
"There have been attempts in the past but they didn't generate enough community support to keep it going," she said.
The program is open to boys and girls nine and up but there is an opening for Cloverbuds, that can see children as young as five joining.
Agriculture is not the only interest for 4-H members. The members can be part of photography, scrapbooking, wildlife and more.
In the coming weeks, Smith plans to send out flyers through the school to try and get more interest among the youngsters.
She said there are no planned meetings but will be using social media to keep interested parents and children informed.
She can be reached at here Facebook page here if anyone wants to become part of 4-H.
